Healthcare a Priority for Palzewicz Brookfield WI, — Democrat Tom Palzewicz believes healthcare reform needs to be a process, a systematic build towards universal healthcare that makes sense for the community, the economy and for the healthcare industry.

While healthcare reform has been a topic for political debate for many years, the Covid-19 pandemic has brought the discussion to a new level. “One of the things that this pandemic has shown is that our healthcare system doesn’t really work together,” said Palzewicz. “It’s been very difficult for municipalities and states to understand just how much capacity there is in the healthcare system, how much we’re actually using, and how do we get these different healthcare institutions to work together, because there’s really no incentive for them to work together. They’re about their bottom line versus making sure people are covered, and making sure people are actually healthy, so that is the thing that needs to happen.” Must have all parties at the table Palzewicz realizes there are constituencies involved in healthcare reform, such as the medical providers and the insurance companies. Any solution will require all the parties to come to the table and agree on a plan that works for all concerned. That solution will only come about with bi-partisan effort. “It’s going to take some time,” Palzewicz explained. “There are about three and a half million jobs in the health insurance industry that are going need to get reallocated and moved in some way, shape, or form and we want people to be able to keep the doctor they’re seeing, and be able to stay on the path of their healthcare, yet our healthcare costs are out of control. We pay approximately 40% more than most other industrialized countries for healthcare that really isn’t 40% better. It’s actually in some ways worse, and I think what we need to do is have a healthcare plan that says, ‘all right, let’s make sure everybody has affordable access to healthcare.’ Then we can move to a more proactive healthcare plan.” A sticking point between progressives and conservatives is the breadth of the healthcare coverage, as many Americans receive healthcare as an employment benefit, yet millions of others have no coverage at all. Bridging that gap is a major key in bringing about reform. “I am for overall a universal healthcare plan,” said Palzewicz. “I am for lowering the Medicare age, probably down to 50, and then working on getting everyone else covered, and then slowly moving to a universal healthcare plan. There’s a lot of Democrats who agree with me, and I think when I go to Congress we’re going to have a majority, at least in the House. There’s going to be some kind of healthcare legislation passed. It’s really going to be whether we can get it through the Senate or not.” Palzewicz is looking forward to working with colleagues across the isle. Need everyone to solve issue “The problems we face in America are about all of us, so it will take all of us to solve them,” said Palzewicz. “There are so many diverse opinions, even within the Democratic Party, and no one individual has all the answers. That’s why it is essential for all of us, Democrats and Republicans, to come to the table and have an open, honest and comprehensive discussion, respecting the opinion of everyone in the room. “For so long it has been an ‘us against’ them mentality in Washington. This is about ALL of us, not one side or the other. We are Americans first. To come up with solutions we need to set aside differences. Greatness comes from commonality and what we can all share together.”
